16 September 2010 - Utah League of Women Voters
From the League of Women Voters web site:
The League of Women Voters shall not support or oppose any political party or candidate. Our purpose is to promote political responsiblity through informed and active participation in government.
My understanding is that the League isn't sending out candidate surveys this year. To make it easier to see where I stand, I am providing answers the the League's recommended candidate questions here on my site. |

We had the great opportunity of having a booth at Draper Days where we conducted a voter registration drive.
Sherrie Swensen and the Salt Lake County Clerk Elections Division have done great work making voter registration easily available. If you have not registered to vote, or you have moved or changed your name since the last time you voted, check out the Elections Division's Register to Vote page. |

13 July 2010 - Endorsements
At the campaign kickoff, Representative Jay Seegmiller announced some of the growing list of endorsements we have received.
Organizations and individuals spend a great deal of time investigating the qualities of a candidate before they choose to use the weight of their good name to support a candidate. I am happy to share a growing list of organizations I have met with and who have elected to endorse me. Please visit our new endorsements page for more information. |

2 June 2010 - Congratulation Graduates
Congratulations to all the High School Graduates of the Class of 2010 - but especially to my daughter Erin.
Erin participated in the International Baccalaureate program at Hillcrest High School. This program is an excellent example of the school choice that exists within our public school system. Choice that provides opportunity to all students - not just those from families with the resources to select more expensive programs within a voucher system.
Erin also demonstrates the great quality of our youth and the hope we can have in our future. Not only did she participate in a rigorous academic program but throughout the school year, she and her friend Phuong Li raised the $5,000 needed to grant a wish for a Make-A-Wish kid. |

31 May 2010 - Memorial Day
For many Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer and has become an opportunity to take advantage of the long weekend to run to Lake Powell or to have a picnic.
Others spend the day remembering their deceased family members with flowers and cleaning their grave sites.
Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while serving in the American military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. |

24 April 2010 - Thank You!
At the County Convention on the 24th, I received the official nomination of the Salt Lake County Democratic Party to run for House Seat 51.
I would like to take a moment to thank the Delegates for your support. While Jesse withdrew for work reasons, I would like to thank him for his willingness to "enter the fray."
Now, let's turn our attention to November 2nd. |

22 April 2010 - Earth Day
April 22 is Earth Day. Our natural environment is a heritage we MUST preserve for the security of future generations. Global climate change threatens to degrade the quality of life available for all of us. Let’s all stand up to do our part to reduce, repair, reuse, and recycle.
When elected, I commit to do what I can to ensure when the state builds or remodels they do so with LEEDS certification in mind. I will ensure Utah’s businesses have easy and incented access to carbon emissions exchanges. I will work to help energy entrepreneurs develop alternative energy sources.
Whether you believe the science that demonstrates global warming or you choose to ignore it, you are affected by the health risks of dirty air, dirty water, and the diminished quality of our environment. Don’t let the protection of our environment and the preservation of quality of life become a partisan issue simply because the extremists on the left or the right have offended you in some way.
Draper City is sponsoring Earth Day events on April 24th at the Draper City Park at 1300 East 12500 South. |

21 April 2010 - Mrs. Rosa Parks: Thoughts on Courage for the Campaign of 2010
by David Saari
Dr. Saari sent this article (posted here with his permission) with it's conclusion:
Mrs. Parks said,
"I would like to be known as a person who is concerned about freedom and equality and justice and prosperity for all people."
In the campaign of 2010, will you have the courage to say the same.
I responded in part with:
My campaign is dedicated to freedom, opportunity and security for all.
I agree with your premise that a marriage license is a government sponsored contractual agreement and not a religious document. The government should be in the business of governing legal relationships and religion should be in the business of sacraments.
I strongly oppose constitutional amendments (state or federal) that limit individual rights instead of protecting them. I stand strongly in favor of laws that correct inequalities in our system and balance opportunity. You ask if I have the courage to say in my campaign if I will have the courage to say, I would like to be known as a person who is concerned about freedom and equality and justice and prosperity for all people.” I respond by telling you that is the main reason I am campaigning at all. |
